Objectives

• Transform a discarded book into a creative work
  of art that encompasses a theme and utilizes a
  variety of media and techniques
• Techniques are located on your handout

Formats to choose from

• Book as Theme- create artworks throughout the
  book that reflects the theme
• Tell a Story- create images through the book to
  tell a new story
• Book as Art- use the book as the form/base for
  individual art not related to the book

Book needs to include the minimum

• All pages must depict a specific topic related to
  the title or theme of the book
• On cover or inside cover- Hand traced with
  pattern added
• On cover- Transferred letters of name
• A title page that includes a variation of the
  theme (My World) and images to suggest topics to
  be found in the book
• A page depicting Family
• A page depicting a personal goal
• A page depicting a memory
• Two open facing pages including the concepts of
  positive/negative space and contrast
• A page that includes contour line drawings
• A page that includes repetition (pattern)
• A page that is predominately text
• A page that includes use of an envelope
• Use of specific color harmony (triad/monochromatic
  /complementary/analogous)
• Use of at least 10 items from the media list
  (mark them off)
• Use of at least 8 items from the techniques list
  (mark them off)

History

• 11th century Italian monks recycled old
  manuscripts written on velum by scraping off the
  ink and adding new text and illustrations on top
  of the old.
