A- Geography
  • Cambodia is bound by Thailand, Laos and
    Viet Nam
  • Land Area 181,035 square kilometers
  • Extends of the country from the east to the
    west is 580 Km and 450 Km from the north
    to the south
  • Two distinct monsoon seasons
  • Annual temperature is 270C- 400C.

  • Total Population 2004 was 13.091 million
    (Cambodia Inter-Censal Population Survey
    2004)
  • 85 percent of the population lives in rural
    area and 15 percent lives in Urban area.
  • Population density is 74 per square
    kilometer
  • Population in Phnom Penh 1,043,669 CIPS

  • Male are predominantly head of household
  • Household size 5.1 persons

C- Economy
  • Cambodias economy grew 5.3 in 2003 compared
    to 5.5 in 2002, but Cambodia is one of the
    world's
  • poorest countries.
  • Government expenditure on health is 1 per
    capita in year 2000 (CDHS 2000).
  • The real GDP per capita in 2004 is US 325
    (EIC).
  • Agriculture is the most important sector,
    which account for about 39.6 percent of
    the Gross Domestic Product
  • (GDP) in 2003.

  • A-History
  • Cambodia culture and the history of the Khmer
    people and the Khmer accomplishments, the legacy
    they have left for the world to marvel art, the
    cultural heritage of the Khmer people far
    surpasses any of Cambodia's modern day neighbors.
    Khmer's historic, architectural achievements are
    on par with the wonders of the ancient Egypt.
  • B- Khmer Food
  • There are two basic dishes in Cambodia soup
    and rice. Soup may include fish, egg, vegetables
    or meats. Rice is prepared in several ways and is
    eaten in every meal. Seafood and fish are common
    in addition to vegetables and fruits. Cambodians
    use chopsticks, spoons or their fingers depending
    on the food and family custom.

  • C-Greeting
  • - Offer a traditional greeting with hands in
    front of face, palms together, in prayer-like
    fashion.
  • - Men can shake hands with men.
  • - Men should not shake hands with Khmer women
    unless they offer their hand.
  • - Men should not hug, kiss, or touch the body of
    a Khmer woman while greeting her. (She will lose
    respect and feel embarrassed.)
  • - Men should not give "strong" visual attention
    to other men.
