Random Facts about Pluto!
  • Pluto is a dwarf planet!
  • It is made up of ice and rock!
  • Its atmosphere is made up of nitrogen and
    methane!
  • Pluto looks like a star because it has a diameter
    of only 0.15.
  • Plutos average distance from the sun is
    3,670,050,000 miles!

3
Plutos Name!
  • Plutos name was thought of by Venetia Burney, an

Plutos Story!
  • At the time of Pluto's discovery, it was
considered to be a planet (it is now classified
as a dwarf planet). Being very cold and the
farthest from the sun, Pluto was named after the
Roman god of death. According to Roman myth, when
someone died, they travelled down to the
Underworld. First, they had to cross the River of
the Dead, called the river Styx. Everyone was
buried with a coin, to pay the ferryman, Charon,
who would carry the dead across the river Styx in
his boat. Pluto's moon is named Charon after this
    ferryman of the Underworld.

  • The next moon is Nix!
  • It was discovered in 2005!
  • The third moon is Hydra!
  • It was also discovered in 2005!

6
The Speed of Pluto!
  • Pluto takes 247.9 earth years to make one orbit
around the sun, at an average speed of 10,623
    miles per hour!

7
Have any spacecrafts visited Pluto?
  • Pluto has not yet been visited by a spacecraft
but one is on its way! In January 2006, NASA
launched the first mission to Pluto! This mission
called New Horizons will reach Pluto in2015!

The End Of Pluto!
  • Unfortunately Pluto is no longer a planet but it
has been re-named a DWARF PLANET!
  • One reason why Pluto is no longer a planet is
because its orbit is not circular like the other
    planets.
  • SO NOW PLUTO IS OVER!
