Regional Center

• IGNOU Regional Center , Ahmedabad came in to
  existence in 1987, inaugurated by the then
  Honble Governor of Gujarat, Sh R.K.Trivedi,in
  the presence of founder Vice Chancellor of
  IGNOU,Prof. Ram Reddy, The Operational area was
  initially Gujarat,Maharashtra,Diu,Daman and Dadra
  Nagar Haveli,Later on with the establishment of
  Pune Regional Centre,Ahmedabad RC was restricted
  to Gujarat and Diu,Daman and Dadra Nagar
  Haveli.In 2002 Regional Centre shifted to its new
  campus.
• The land of 5 acres was allotted to IGNOU free of
  cost by the Government of Gujarat. IGNOU
  constructed its own building from where RC is
  functioning since 2002.

Regional Center is Situated in a Sprawling campus
of five Acres

• Completely Self Sufficient and a good resource
  center with
• Huge Computer LAB
• Big Library
• DRS System (Teleconferencing Room )
• EduSat
• Gyan Vani FM Station
• With an auditorium and Conference hall it may be
  an ideal place for national,international
  Conference.
• Sub RC started functioning in 2004, situated in
  the campus of Saurashtra University, Rajkot
  covering eight districts and Union Territory of
  Diu.
• Saurashtra University has given the building at a
  token rent

Some observations about Teleconferencing and IRC

• Teleconferencing sessions are popular among the
  students of professional courses,specially
  medical programmes.
• More questions of general nature are asked,like
  what are the programmes offered,when the exam
  will be
• Conducted,whether the result of last TEE is out
  or not,when the result is expected etc.
• Subject specific questions are not found/rarely
  found.
• Visually impaired people take more interest in
  IRC
• People, in general, from the rural area, interact
  frequently during IRC.

Our achievements and Practices -Five acres
land at the prime location. -Establishment of a
Sub-Regional Center at Rajkot, at token rent ,
support of Saurashtra University- Saurashtra
University is a partner institute for Gyan Vani
FM Radio station.-Sub-study Center at Central
Jail,Ahmedabad having enrollment of around 650
students since 1993.-State Govt. had sponsored
all female learners almost for a decade

• -CFN programme is being offered in Gujarati
  -CWDL programme was translated in Gujarati and
  printed by Regional Center.
• - Dispatch of CFN(G) and CWDL (G) material by
  Regional Center.
• - Constant enrollment in B.Sc.(N) programme since
  inception.
• - Good support from State Govt. State Govt. has
  sponsored twenty (20) medical officers for
  PGDMCH programme and 22 candidates for Health
  care waste management

• Personal interview and meeting with learners,
  during admissions in B.Ed.
• Identification and establishment of six special
  centers in the Tribal Areas of Gujarat for tribal
  learners for two years, Students of Tribal
  Centers were sponsored by the Govt. of Gujarat.
• - A special Centre at The Blind People
  Association, for differently abled students

• -We exchange continuous support and cooperation
  with state level open university-BAOU
• -Special care for aged students.
• - Placement for DECE learners in different
  schools of Ahmedabad Baroda.

Our concerns.

• Downward trend in enrollment which goes against
  our expectations , Reasons could be- wide spread
  net work of State Open University, same
  programmes in offer by IGNOU and State OU.
  Somewhere we may have some lapses in popularising
  our new initiatives
• Staff position should be strenghthened at RC
  level
• Material distribution-not done timely.
  suggestion is that admission work for July
  session should be done in time as extention of
  date till August/ September generate lot many
  querries among learners and results in late
  receipt of study material
• Regular Orientation-reorientation is required for
  RC staff.
