Introduction
  • What is UNENE?
  • An alliance of universities, nuclear power
    utilities, research and regulatory agencies for
    the support of nuclear education, and RD
    capability in Canadian universities.
  • Established as a not-for-profit corporation by
    the Government of Canada in July 22, 2002.
  • Objectives
  • To assure a sustainable supply of qualified
    nuclear engineers and scientists to meet the
    current and future needs of the Canadian nuclear
    industry
  • To encourage young people to choose nuclear
    careers.
  • To establish new nuclear professorships in six
    Ontario universities
  • To enhance funding for nuclear research in
    selected universities in order to retain and
    sustain nuclear capability in the universities,

UNENE Master of NE Program
  • A part time program designed for students already
    employed in the industry
  • Courses offered in compressed weekend format
  • Most Courses are Offered in Durham Region
  • For M.Eng Need 10 Courses or 8 courses and a
    Project
  • Also, can choose to take only few of the courses
    rather than the full program

Challenges
  • Minimum 2.5 years of commitment
  • Heavy Workload - Requires a lot of reading,
    completing group projects, individual
    assignments, and presentations
  • Need to spend most of evenings and weekends
    studying
  • Need to make up the time away from work or take
    it as vacation

How To Apply
  • OPG Approval
  • Obtain prior OPG approval to establish level of
    OPG financial support
  • Fill out the form Approval for Extramural
    Activities (http//webportal.opg.com/sapportal)
    with your supervisor.
  • Send to the Department Manager/Director for
    review and recommendation for approval.
  • Send to John Froats, VP - Engineering
    Modifications for approval.
  • Application for Admission
  • Register with one of the following universities
  • McMaster, Western, or Waterloo
  • Need Further Information
