  • Aim
  • To ascertain the site requirements for an
    irrigation system
  • To introduce AS1547 requirements for shallow sub
    surface irrigation
  • To give examples of shallow sub surface product
    installations.

3
Types of Irrigation
  • Surface
  • Sprays, Drippers
  • Sub Surface
  • Designed by an engineer
  • Low pressure percolating pipe with maximum
    working pressure of 70 kpa
  • Drip feed line with emitters fixed internally

4
Requirements
  • Setback Distance Requirements
  • As Per Supplements A B
  • 50m From Wells, Bores, Dams, watercourses.
  • 0.5 m from boundaries (Flat).
  • 1.5 m From Buildings (Down slope) and AWTS.
  • 3m From Buildings ( Upslope).

5
  • Area requirements (200 m2 for 6 EP -Std
    fixtures).
  • Recreation area requirements (Surface).
  • Slope requirements (15 or designed by an
    Engineer).
  • Soil Assessment Details for Sub Surface

6
Shallow Sub Surface Irrigation (AS 1547)
  • Setbacks as per Supp B
  • 20/30 Std effluent required
  • Pump and Irrigation System shall have

7
  • Sump with volume of at least 200 L
  • Be Matched to the Required Hydraulic
    Characteristics of the Irrigation System
  • Be able to discharge at least 50 more than the
    30 minute flow rate
  • Drip rates not to vary more than 10 from the
    design rate
  • Pipework must be designed to withstand 150 of
    the shutoff head

8
  • Must distribute effluent evenly
  • Be permanently buried and fixed
  • Dripper system buried to at Least 100 mm
  • Maximum spacing to be 1000 m in clay and 600 mm
    in sand
  • Be provided with an in line strainer (150 200
    mesh) to prevent blockages
  • Vacuum Breakers to be provided.
  • Scour valves to be provided.
  • Precommissioning tests
  • Operation of the Pump, check the system
  • Signage or underground marking tape to be used
    for location of system
