Aims of the Session
  • Everybody should feel, by the end of the day that
    they
  • Are able to use the camera and editing software
  • Can create videos using a network
  • Have some ideas for developing visual literacy
  • Are filled with enthusiasm for using digital
    video across the curriculum!

Using the camera
  • Turn it on first (does go on standby, record
    button doubles as power switch)
  • Keep finger on record button, to stop recording
    lift finger!
  • Only a small memory, will need to download
    frequently
  • Easier to edit if clips are short

Ideas
Some suggestions for making a film today
  • A safety film (roads, electricity, using
    computers)
  • An advertisement
  • Stimulus for writing (instructions, etc.) NB this
    could then be used in future lit lessons!
  • A news report
  • A trailer for a movie
  • A demonstration of how to use a camera

Some Common Mistakes
  • Not holding down the record button whilst
    videoing
  • Not realising the camera is on standby and using
    the record button as a power switch (then nothing
    records!)
  • Using a clip from temporary in a story board (can
    not then be retrieved). Suggest always
    transferring to permanent.
  • Trying to use an exported storyboard as separate
    clips (note when you export it converts to a
    clip)
  • Forgetting to delete sounds associated with
    special effects
  • Getting confused with clips (requires a good
    understanding of using folders and shared areas)

    biscuits, naming ceremony)
  • Demonstrations (a forward roll, using a bench
    hook)
  • Learning Support/Extension
  • Record of work done (class assembly, parents
    evening)
  • Record work to discuss in a plenary
