  • A.P.E.S Block 3

2
Water Cycle Steps
  • Precipitation
  • Surface Runoff

5
Precipitation
  • Any form of water (ex. Snow)
  • When water is released from the clouds.
  • Brings the water down to Earth

8
Surface Runoff
  • After the rainfall (precipitation) water runs off
    into bodies of water
  • Most rivers come directly from runoff from the
    land surface.

11
Recharge
  • When water seeps into the ground.
  • It helps to form underground wells and it
    eventually helps to replenish oceans.

14
Discharge/Infiltration
  • Occurs after water has gone through (infiltrated)
    the ground.
  • This helps to put water back into streams,
    oceans, rivers, lakes, etc.

15

16
Transpiration
  • When water sweats out of plants and gets put
    back into the atmosphere.

19
Evaporation
  • Water changes state (from liquid to gas) and
    begins to form clouds.
  • Biggest way that water is put back into the
    cycle.

Condensation
  • When water changes state, again
  • This is when water (precipitation) collects in
    the clouds
  • When it becomes to heavy the clouds break and
water is put back on the Earth.

Water in the Atmosphere
  • The atmosphere is only 0.001 water.

26
Water in the Lithosphere
  • The lithosphere is composed of rock.
  • Therefore, water in a part of the lithosphere by
    causing weathering and erosion.

27
Water in the Hydrosphere
  • Oceans, lakes, ponds, streams, seas, etc.
  • Bodies of water.
  • Water is the hydrosphere

28
Water in the Biosphere
  • Water is linked to all living things therefore,
water is indirectly abundantly flowing through
    the biosphere.

29
Why water is biologically important.
  • Essential for survival/life.
  • The body is up to 60 water.
  • You loose water through your natural body fluids
therefore, you need to stay hydrated to prevent
    sickness.

30
Why water is ecologically important.
  • Algae helps to produce oxygen which as we know,
is essential for human, plant, and animal life.
  • Algae grows in water and is the beginning of the
    food chain.
  • Therefore it has proven itself, again, to be
    essential to life.
