• Swarms of tornadoes killed at least ten people
  across the Midwest, shut down the University of
  Kansas, and damaged so much of Springfield, IL
  (the capital), that the Mayor declared Every
  square inch suffered adverse effects of some
  kind.

  outages in five states
• Arkansas
• Kansas
• Missouri
• Illinois
• Oklahoma

• The tornado made a two-hour pass through Central
  Illinois, causing devastation and tens of
  thousands of power outages in homes and
  businesses along the way.
• Two hours at or near the ground makes this
  tornado an unusual event.
