The space shuttle has flown 120 missions into
space. The most dangerous and critical time for
the shuttle is launch and re-entry, Once in
orbit, the shuttle is basically freefalling in
earths orbit. How fast does the shuttle orbit
the earth?
A. 17,500 miles per hour
B. 25,500 miles per hour
3
Correct!
Furthermore, the astronauts inside the shuttle
are also freefalling at 17,500 miles per hour,
experiencing a feeling of weightlessness!
Click on shuttle for next question.
4
Sorry!
Click on the shuttle to go back and answer again.
5
Click on the picture of the shuttle and watch
the launch. Why does the shuttle roll over a few
seconds after launch?
A. To give the astronauts a better view of the
earth
B. To allow the external tank, rather than the
shuttles hull, to take the brunt of maximum
dynamic pressure.
6
Correct!
Actually, both of these answers are correct! The
astronauts need a better view for some
instrumentation procedures. However, when the
shuttle assembly reaches the point of maximum
dynamic pressure, the large external tank is
better able to withstand it.
Click on shuttle for next question.

Which planet is the Cassini currently orbiting?
A. Mars
B. Saturn
16
Correct!
Cassini successfully crossed Saturns plane of
rings and is sending back images of Saturns
moons to NASA. Here is an image received July 3,

Most astronauts believe man will visit the red
planet. How many seasons does Mars have?
A. 4 seasons
B. 2 seasons
19
Correct!

rovers on the red planet. What are their names?
A. Enterprise and Eagle
B. Spirit and Opportunity
22
Correct!
Both Spirit and Opportunity are successfully
