There is no rhyme or reason to why they do
    anything

6
The Dos and Donts of Using an Elevator
7
Have You Ever...
  • Hit the door close button when you knew someone
was coming, but you just wanted to be alone?
  • Pretended not to notice that someone wanted the
elevator and let the doors close?
  • Walked on past as if you didnt really want the
elevator because someone was on it that you
    didnt want to ride with?
  • Got off on the wrong floor and just kept walking
    so no one would know?

8
Who Gets On and Off First?
  • Allow the person who pressed the button for the
    elevator on first
  • Allow those to exit the elevators before you
    enter
  • Allow the person closest to the door to get off
    first

9
Courtesies
  • Hold the door for a person running for the
elevator and persons getting on and off
  • If standing by the buttons, push it for those in
    back, What floor?
  • If youre going to an upper floor, step to the
    back of the elevator
  • Stand out of the way as passengers exit the
    elevator

10
Dont Be Rude!
  • Dont press the buttons to all the floors before
    you get off
  • Dont hold the doors open and talk while others
are waiting to get to their destinations
  • Dont spit your gum out or throw your wrappers
    and garbage on the floor
  • Dont force your way onto a jam-packed elevator
(especially if you have a cart)

11
Still Dont Be Rude!!
  • If you emit an odor (havent taken a shower in a
few weeks, havent washed your clothes in a few
months, recently ate garlic or onions, etc.),
stand as far away from others as possible
(especially stay away from pregnant ladies whose
sense of smell is heightened during this time in
    their lives)
  • Dont expel gas on an elevator...even when youre
alone (others will use it afterwards)

12
Think First
  • Check which way the elevator is going before you
make others hold it for you
  • Think about what floor you need to go to before
    pressing the button

13
Oddities
  • Stand facing the front door (not the back or
    sides)
  • Dont speak to or touch anyone unless you know
them already (especially if you can tell theyre
    trying to ignore you)
  • Dont stand right next to someone you dont know
if space will allow it (we Americans like a
    little elbow room)

14
Last but not Least
  • If going up or down one floor, take the stairs!!!
