INTRODUCTION TO LITERATURE
THE PURPOSE OF LITERATUREentertain and enlighten
Entertaining Story A dog carrying a piece of
meat in his mouth was crossing a river when he
suddenly saw his own reflection in the water.
Mistaking the image for another dog, he dropped
his meat and jumped to the attack. His piece of
meat fell in the water and was carried away by
the current. And so the dog lost both what he had
and what he didn't have.
Enlightening Moral of Story teach the dangers of

Deny thy father and refuse thy name Or, if
thou wilt not, be but sworn my love, And I'll no
longer be a Capulet. Imagine you read the play
Romeo and Juliet. Because love and arranged
marriage are big issues in the play, you become
curious about the subject during Shakespeares
time, across cultures, and during present day.
You decide to research arranged marriages to
further enhance your understanding of the play.
