Title: Electrical Equipment

1
Electrical Equipment
  • Jumbos and Bolters used by McArthur River Mines NT

2
Types of Equipment
  • Jumbo
  • McArthur River use the Tamrock Twin Boomed
Minimatic 205-40 Jumbo which is electro
    hydraulically powered.
  • Bolter
  • McArthur River have two bolters, both electro
    hydraulic Tamrock Robolt 320-30Cs.

3
Minimatic 205-40 Specifications
  • The following specifications refer to the general
dimensions and layout of the jumbo
  • Length 12 300mm
  • Width 1980mm
  • Height (max) 3200mm
  • (min) 2350mm
  • Weight 19 000kg
  • Horizontal tramming 10 km/h
  • 17 tramming 4km/h
  • Gradeability 13.5
  • Noise level 105 dB(A)

4
Minimatic 205-40 Specifications
  • Hydraulic boom specifications
  • HP 545 Motor/Pump unit
  • Electric motor 45 kW 3-phase
  • Percussion pumps 130 l/m displacement
    axial pump
  • Rotation pump 45 l/m gear pump
  • Air and Water System
  • Compressor C 1000
  • Capacity 1.1m3/min _at_ 7 bar
  • Air consumption 200-300 l/min
  • Oil consumption 200-300 g/h
  • Water pump WBP 2, 4kW
  • Electric drilling specifications
  • Total input power 108 kW
  • Main switch MSE 20
  • Standard voltages 380-660V
  • Max Voltage 1000V
  • Voltage fluctuation 10
  • Working lights (4) 500W, 220V
  • Driving lights (6) 70W, 24V

5
Minimatic 205-40 Power
  • The Jumbos booms are hydraulically controlled
with the aid of an electrical motor to power
    them.
  • The Jumbos get their power via a 50mm trailing
cable connected to the main power supply and
passed through an onboard transformer to the
    drilling mechanisms including steel feeder,
drill withdrawal, drill retrieval and drill
    rotation.
  • Required power input into the twin booms is 108
kW, used to produce voltages of between 380 and
    660. The Jumbos can produce voltages in excess
    of 1000 V.
  • Voltage fluctuations associated with the booms
    is estimated to be 10

6
Minimatic 205-40 Safety
  • Stringent safety precautions are implemented into
each Jumbo due to the large voltages produced and
    power inputs.
  • These safety precautions include devices such as
  • Circuit breakers
  • Emergency cut off switches
  • Overheating protection
  • Insulated power sources
  • Overload protection
  • Paramount to these devices is the initial
induction and familiarisation with the equipment
carried out by all persons iinvolved with the
    machine or its surroundings.

7
Robolt 330-20C
  • The following specifications refer to the general
dimensions and configuration of the Bolters used
    at McArthur River
  • Length 11 200mm
  • Width 2 600mm
  • Height (max) 3 200mm
  • (min) 2 350mm
  • Weight 16 000kg
  • Horizontal speed 10km/h
  • 17 slope speed 4km/h
  • Gradeability 13.5
  • Noise level 97dB (A)

Robolt 330-20C
  • Hydraulic boom specifications
  • HP 545 Motor/Pump unit
  • Electric motor 45 kW 3-phase
  • Percussion pumps 130 l/m displacement axial
    pump
  • Rotation pump 45 l/m gear pump
  • Air and Water System
  • Compressor C 1000
  • Capacity 1.1m3/min _at_ 7 bar
  • Air consumption 200-300 l/min
  • Oil consumption 200-300 g/h
  • Water pump WBP 2, 4kW
  • Electric drilling specifications
  • Total input power 108 kW

  • Driving lights (6) 70W, 24V

9
Robolt 330-20C
  • As with the Minimatic Jumbo power supply, the
Robolt is configured exactly the same. The only
noticeable difference to the two machines is the
boom mount and number of booms.
  • The Bolter has only a single boom and the boom
mount is fitted with a rotary bolting head.
  • The machine is still powered by the same means
as that of the Jumbo. Both pieces of equipment
use and distribute their power identically.
  • The safety precautions apply to the Bolter as
    they do for the Jumbo

10
Summary
  • MRM use electricity in many ways, both as a power
source for its equipment and as a means for power
to its three regions, mill, mine and village
  • MRM own 6 Minimatic Jumbos, used for hard rock
    drilling underground
  • These Jumbos are both electrically and
    hydraulically powered
  • MRM run 2 Robolt bolters, used in hard rock
    ground support
  • The Robolt Bolters, similarly to the Jumbos, are
    electro hydraulically driven
  • Safety concerning the use of electrical equipment
at MRM is of a high and stringent standard
  • Each piece of equipment is fitted with cut of
devices, overload switches, circuit breakers and
    insulation
