Classroom Deadlines
  • Send a parent letter as a class or as a team to
    give parents the dates and rules
  • Set your classroom project due date earlier than
    January 11 in order to correct any mistakes that
    will prevent a project from not being judged
    (size, omission of a story element, etc.)

Guidelines for Projects
  • Use a Science Fair backboard
  • Can be from 30x40 up to 36x48
  • NO HEADERS!!!!!!
  • You may want to remind students to buy an extra
    board for Science Fair
  • ON THE BACK OF THE DISPLAY Write students name,
    grade, teacher, school, and district

  • Choose a FICTION book
  • It can be an AR book the student has already read

  • Make projects colorful and interesting
  • Models, shadowboxes, and illustrations can be
    included (as long as it fits INSIDE the project
    area-not too far in front or too high above)
  • Text can be handwritten or computer generated
  • I have included a list of suggestions from judges
    on how to make projects better on the website

  • Projects can be simplified for Kindergarten and
    First Grade, ESL students, SPED students, etc.
  • Projects should be child-centered, but the
    student can have help from an adult

Guidelines for Teachers
  • Each student will be given a handout to take
    home. It is for their information and DOES NOT
    need to be attached to the board.
  • You may want to compose a letter to send to the
    parents explaining what you expect from your
    students.
