Retention Model
  • This model illustrates retention by exploring the
    membership activity between two points in time.
    It provides a framework to view how the induction
    and termination of members contribute to the net
    gain or loss from year to year. Therefore, the
    amount of turnover and retention that is
    occurring in a club can be quantified.

Instructions for use of Retention Model
  • Establish the time frame you wish to study by
    entering your Start date in the top blue box, and
    your End date in the bottom blue box
  • In the top blue box, enter the number of active
    members in your club on your start date
  • In the bottom blue box, enter the number of
    active members on your end date
  • The __ Net Gain / Loss can be calculated by
    using the following formula
  • (End date membership number Start date
    membership number) 100
  • Start date membership number
    __ Net Gain / Loss
  • In the Existing Members Terminated box, enter the
    number of members that were active on your start
    date but terminated before your end date
  • The __ of Members can be calculated by using the
    following formula Existing Members Terminated
    100
  • Start date membership number
    __ of Members
  • In the Existing Members Remaining in Club box,
    enter the number of members that were active on
    your start date and were still active on your end
    date.

    Clubs should equal your Start date number
  • 8) In the New Members Inducted box, enter the
    number of new members inducted between your start
    date and end date
  • 9) In the New Members Terminated box, enter the
    number of new members that were terminated before
    your end date
  • 10) The __ of Total New members can be
    calculated by using the following formula
  • New Members Terminated 100
  • New Members Inducted __ of
    Total New
  • 11) In the New Members Currently Active box,
    enter the number of new members who were still
    active on your end date
  • Note The numbers for New Members Currently
    Active and New Members Terminated should equal
    the number of New Members Inducted
  • Note The numbers for Existing Members Remaining
    in Club and New Members Currently Active should
    equal your End date number
