• AMA students started FAA national policy to ban
  smoking on airplanes
• AMA students lobby for deferment of medical
  student loans and solutions to growing student
  debt

  antibacterial products causing increased
  microbial resistance...

Achieving Success Towards Medical Student Debt

• The AMA-MSS led the legislative charge to help
  address the growing financial burden associated
  with medical education
• Restoring Earnings to Lift Individuals and
  Empower Families Act of 2001
• deduct the interest from student loans from tax
  returnsUp to 65K single filer, up to 130K
  joint filers
• We will work diligently with AMPAC to build on
  these accomplishments over the next year.

AMA in the NEWS - June 2000

• Medical Student Policy from June 14, 2000 The
  AMAs Council on Scientific Affairs said the FDA
  should expedite regulation of antimicrobial
  agents in such consumer products as hand
  lotions, soaps, and body washes. The AMAs
  recommendations came two days after the World
  Health Organization reported that almost all
  major infectious diseases are gradually
  becoming resistant to the drugs used against
  them. -as reported on CNN

• Increased representation in the AMA-HOD
• Approximately 21 students will serve as full
  voting delegates in the physician House of
  Delegates
• This means votes to impact policy and the
  direction of the largest and most influential
  physician organization in the country
• Elections for these positions will be held at
  I-01 in San Francisco
