What is lung cancer
  • There are two types of lung cancer
  • Non-cell lung cancer which spreads to other parts
    of the body slowly. which includes,
  • Squamous Cell Carcinoma
  • Adennocarcinona
  • Large Cell Carcinoma
  • Small cell lung cancer also moves through body
    parts only faster and accounts about 20 of all
    lung cancer

What causes lung cancer
  • Smoking is the leading cause of lung cancer
  • 87 of lung cancer is caused by smoking
  • cigarettes contain 4,000 different chemicals
    which are proven to cause the effect
  • smoking just doesnt cause lung cancer but also
    causes heart disease, chronic bronchitis,
    strokes, and emphysema.

  • Radon is the second leading cause in the U.S.
  • Radon is a gas that seeps up through soil in many
    foundations of home properties
  • The EPA estimates that 1 out of every 15 homes in
    the U.S. has radon gas within the home
  • One cannot see or smell radon gas. The only way
    to detect it is to test homes with a radon
    detector for levels.

  • Symptoms of lung cancer
  • Chest Pain
  • Wheezing
  • Hoarseness
  • Chronic cough
  • Coughing up blood
  • Shortness of breath
  • Weight loss loss of appetite
  • Fever without a known reason

How lung cancer is detected (cont.)
  • A doctor may also have a person cough up a piece
    of mucus and have it examined for cancer cells.
  • Followed by a chest X-ray or a CT scan

How is lung cancer treated
  • Surgery is one way but not always the best way to
    treat, all depends where the tumor is located in
    the lungs
  • Radiation Therapy is the form of X-ray that kills
    the cancer cells
  • Chemotherapy is the use of drugs to fight the
    cancer cells. Some are pills, while others are
    injections which one must take till no longer
    needed.

How can you prevent lung cancer
  • For those who smoke STOP as soon as possible. For
    many who need help The Lung Association is
    offering a new way to prevent stop by calling
    there hotline at 1-800-LUNGUSA
