MWR Calibration and Validation subgroup status

• Output of the ...
• 4th MWR Cal/Val Progress Meeting held in ESRIN on
  September 11, 2001
• - Data needs for the MWR team are now all
  identified and agreed
• - Data requirements have been submitted and
  dissemination scheme is being consolidated
• - No problem foreseen to get access to the
  non-ESA data
• - Processing chain ultimate corrections TBDone
  before launch agreed
• - To be done on all processing chains, to ensure
  homogeneity in terms of algorithms and ADF files

• - Specific algorithm upgrades shall be validated
  during the Com. Phase at CETP
• - Agreed on the pending ADF MWR parameters
• - Pre-launch sensitivity checks on specific
  characterization parameters close to the ERS-2
  values
• - On-going activity on the definition of the
  optimum MWR characterization tables to be used
  for the processing

• - New MWR lev1B algorithm under development (SL
  correction). Shall be ready before launch and
  validated during Com. Phase
• - New MWR lev2 algorithm based on neural network
  proposed. Preliminary validation results are
  quite promising. Validation during Com. Phase
• - IECF (Instrument Engineering Calibration
  Facility) shall support the MWR Cal/Val exercise
• - On-going definition of the MWRGAF (MWR Go Ahead
  Flag) !
• . About one month after switch-on shall be needed
  for the gain to stabilize
• . Some geographical constraints could be proposed
  too.
