What is behavior?

• The way an organism acts and reacts in its
  environment in response to a stimulus.
• Humans have some behaviors that are learned and
  some that are innate.
• But what does this mean???

What is innate?

• Describes an inherent characteristic of
  something. Such as a quality or capability which
  is possessed since birth.

Learned?

• Something that is learned is taught to you or
  you observe others doing. You do not possess it
  at birth.

Nature Vs. Nurture

• This debate explores whether a persons behavior
  is innate/comes from nature. Or, whether
  behavior comes from personal experiences also
  known as nurture.
• What is your opinion on this?

Stimulus

• Anything in an organisms environment that can
  arouse their senses.
• Examples hot and cold, pain, touch, sight,
  sound, smell, taste
• Can you think of other stimuli?

• An organisms reaction to a stimulus.
• Examples Jumping, running, blinking, ducking,
  smiling, etc.
• Can you think of other responses?
