Kasarda Data Analysis
  • August 28, 2007
  • Ron Hinkle

2
Overview
  • School Capacity based on Net classrooms (not
    committed to District Programs)
  • Usage based on Net students (not participating in
    District Programs)
  • Kindergarten handled separately
  • Students per classroom as basic measure of
    capacity vs usage
  • Projections based on Kasarda 2007 B

3
For each elementary school, classrooms are
identified as
  • Full Size classrooms available at each school.
  • Classrooms committed to CUSD 220 District
programs (DL-dual language, SE-Special ED, Gifted
and EL-Early Learning) distinguishing those that
are housed in Full Size versus other smaller
    rooms.
  • Classrooms committed to Kindergarten classes. Due
to differences in full/half day programs across
    schools Kindergarten is handled separately.
  • Net Full Size classrooms available for the
schools 1st through 5th grade classes.

4
For each elementary school, students are
identified as
  • K-5 aged students in the enrollment area, without
    regard to special programs.
  • Kindergarten students in the enrollment area.
  • Kindergarten students who participate in the DL
    program.
  • 1st-5th students who participate in the DL
    program
  • Net 1st-5th students in the enrollment area (not
    in DL).

Conclusion
  • For EMC planning, year 2009/2010 is very
important. By then, all known District programs,
including six DL cohorts, are to be in place.
  • Four schools show lower levels of usage (Hough,
    Lines, Roslyn and Sunny Hill).
  • Two schools show average levels of usage
    (Countryside and North Barrington).
  • Two schools show high levels of usage (Grove and
    Rose).
  • To the extent that we can rely on the attendance
projections and the District plans, we will need
to look for ways to redistribute students to
    equalize usage.
