Three-year Process
  • Year 1 Schools in 8 states participate as beta
    sites to develop and pilot 2 units/site.
  • Year 2 Minnesota (Rochester Public Schools) was
    added along with another Illinois site. Sixteen
    units developed.
  • Year 3 Roll out workshops for year 1 units.
    Development of four elective courses and
    work-based protocols written.

Goals of Biomedical Initiative
  • Improve academic achievement through authentic
    project-based learning related to healthcare
    issues
  • Introduce students to the variety of healthcare
    career options and opportunities available
  • Increase the number of students interested in
    pursuing a care in health care
