Title: Construction status

1
Construction status
2
Doublet-layer production -- 1
  • Light yield of bulk scintillator has been checked
    and found to be OK
  • Scintillating fibres are made from the bulk
    scintillator
  • One end of 350 mm scintillating fibres are
cut/polished then aluminum is sputtered to
    reflect signal to read-out end
  • Reflectivity of mirrored end is monitoredMean R
    75 RMS4

3
Doublet-layer production -- 2
  • Then fibres are laid-out on a mold with groove
    pitch of 426 mm1491 fibres per doublet-layer
  • 40 of 50 doublet-layers completedproduction
rate is one layer per day

4
Station assembly --Bundling
  • To reduce the cost of the read-out electronics
seven 350 µm fibres are read out through single
    clear-fibre light-guide with diameter of 1.05 mm
  • Then bundling is needed, where seven
consecutive fibres are bundled with a rubber
tube, then bundles are laid out in a tool called
    comb
  • Number of fibres in each bundle is checked

5
Station assembly --Connectorisation
  • A 22 way optical connector mates seven
scintillating fibres with one clear fibre
    waveguidealignment of connector holes at
scintillating fibres and clear fibres sides are
    checked with go/no-go gauge
  • The scintillating fibre bundles are threaded
through one of 22 holes of optical connector
  • Number of fibres in each bundle and order of
    fibres/bundles are checked

6
Station assembly --Gluing
  • Three doublet-layers are glued onto a
carbon-fibre station frame with 120 degrees
    radial spacing
  • Optical connectors are attached to carbon-fibre
    station frame
  • Scintillating fibres are potted to optical
    connectors
  • polish fibres with diamond fly cutter

7
Station 5
  • Production and quality assurance procedures
    proved to work

8
Waveguides production
  • Attenuation length of samples from all clear
fibre production batch have been measuredMean
    8.4 m, Sigma 0.5m
  • The first waveguide is under production

Assembly scheme
9
Cryostats DAQ
  • Cryostats production
  • All parts in house
  • Work continues to complete the first production
    cryostat
  • DAQ
  • Firmware is begin developed for AFE-IIt / VME
LVDS Serdes Buffer (VLSB) to cope with MICE
    environment
  • Zero suppression scheme
  • Read-out scheme via VLSB
  • Synchronisation with ISIS beam
  • Distribution of trigger signal under
    consideration

10
3D model
  • 3D model of the interface region of the tracker
is being built at Imperial to check
  • Cable run
  • Diffuser mechanism

11
Summary
  • Doublet layer production already started
  • 50 doublet layer will be completed this month
  • Station production starts this month
  • Two views per week (at full speed)
  • Waveguides production and QA procedure is being
    checked
  • Two weeks per station (conservative estimate)
