Spain to discover America. He sailed on the 3
ships the Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria.
He is credited with calling the Native Americans
Indians because he thought he had landed in the
East Indies to buy spices.

who helped the Jamestown settlers survive their
1st winter in America. She brought them corn,
meat, and furs.

Ben Franklin discovered electricity in lightening
when he flew a kite with a key on a string in a
thunder storm. He invented many things including
the Franklin stove, bifocals, and the lightening
rod. He was a printer and statesmen, too. He
signed the Declaration of Independence declaring
the 13 colonies free from English rule. Also, he
started the first public library and volunteer
fire department in Philadelphia.
