  • THE LAST WILL
  • AND
  • TESTAMENT
  • OF
  • JESUS CHRIST

2
Do You Have a Written Will in the Event of Your
Death?
  • Too Many People Wait Until They Are Much Older to
    Write a Will.
  • The Practice of Writing a Will is Common in Our
    Society.
  • Leaving a Will is Not a Modern Development, but
    an Ancient Practice.

3
THE DEFINITION OF A WILL
  • Hebrews 915-17 (KJV) 15 And for this cause he
is the mediator of the new testament, that by
means of death, for the redemption of the
transgressions that were under the first
testament, they which are called might receive
the promise of eternal inheritance. 16 For where
a testament is, there must also of necessity be
the death of the testator. 17 For a testament is
of force after men are dead otherwise it is of
no strength at all while the testator liveth.

4
Testament / Covenant (from dioatheke)
(Hebrews 915)
  • The last disposition which one makes of his
earthly possessions after his death, a testament
    or will. --
    Thayers Greek Lexicon

5
  • For every will (testament) there must be a
testator who made the will (Hebrews 916).
  • A will (or testament) cannot be written unless
the person has a legacy (i.e., money or
property to pass on to others).

6
Jesus Has a Wonderful Legacy to Pass on to Others!
  • The Legacy of Forgiveness of Sins (Luke 2446-47
    Acts 238 319 Heb. 812).
  • -- There is Nothing on Earth More Important Than
Having Your Sins Forgiven Which Stand Between You
and Your Maker! (Isaiah 591-2 2 Thessalonians
    18-9).

7
  • The Legacy of Eternal Life.
  • -- Linked to forgiveness is the promise of
eternal life in Heaven with God (Hebrews
    1019-23 1 John 225).
  • -- Not all the riches of the earth could begin to
compare with the eternal riches that the Lord
    Jesus gives us! (Ephesians 13).

8
Jesus Will (Testament) Went Into Effect at the
Moment of His Death.
  • In every will, the testator must die (or blood
must be shed) for the will to go into effect
    (Heb. 916-17).
  • When Jesus died upon the cross, a New Testament
(or new will) went into effect (Col. 213-17).

9
  • The New Testament (will) replaced the Old
Testament (will) with all of its laws and
regulations (as prophesied - Jer. 3133-34) (Heb.
    810-13 109).
  • To follow the Old Will (testament) in addition to
the New Will (Testament) will cause a person to
be cut out of the will (Gal. 51-4).

10
The Conditions of the Will.
  • In every will, there are conditions that must be
met in order for people to inherit the persons
    legacy.
  • Example A father will give his ranch to his
  • son provided he lives in Texas.
  • Rev 217 (NKJV) He who overcomes
  • shall inherit all things, and I will be his
  • God and he shall be My son.

11
  • The testator (author of the will) has the
absolute right to make whatever conditions he
    wants to make (Mat. 2818-20).
  • The Lord Jesus passes on His legacy to only those
people who are Gods children (Rom. 816-17).
  • To be one of His children, each person must be
adopted into the Lords family or born again
    spiritually (Gal. 44-7 John 33-5)

12
How May a Person Be Adopted Into Gods Family
and Thus Become an Heir of Christ?
  • By the grace of God found in Jesus Christ our
Savior, a person may become an heir of Christ
    (Titus 35-7).

13
  • To gain access to His grace, each person must
  • BELIEVE in Christ (Mark 1616)
  • CONFESS his/ her faith in Him (Rom. 109-10)
  • REPENT of his sins (Acts 238)
  • Be BAPTIZED into Christ (Acts 238) as specified
by Jesus in His will (i.e., the New Testament)

14
  • Only those who are baptized into Christ are
children of God (Gal. 326-29) and thus heirs of
    eternal life.
  • To remain an heir of Christ after baptism, a
person must maintain an obedient faith unto the
Lord to the very end (Heb. 611-12).

15
Hebrews 611-12 (NASB)
  • And we desire that each one of you show the
same diligence so as to realize the full
assurance of hope until the end, that you may not
be sluggish, but imitators of those who through
faith and patience inherit the promises.

16
