Special needs for Wireless Data in PSS
  • Content of the service is confidential and
    organization depended
  • Existing Command and Control Room systems and
    applications must migrate
  • Service usage level is high
  • information push from the Dispatcher and status
    messaging
  • data access from the field
  • AVL systems
  • Wireless Data services are time critical
  • Service must work in reliable way

5
Information to the Field Forces
  • Using world wide standards like TCP/IP and
Microsoft COM in TETRA interfaces makes possible
  • well known and best applications can be used with
    TETRA and Office
  • AVL, E-Mail products and text information to
    field forces
  • Information to field, enables fast decision
    making
  • Police force can purchase and develop new
    application from 3rd parties
  • TETRA WAP

  • Tracking, transport systems, locate and monitor
    vehicles
  • Fleet Management
  • organization (company) makes routines more
    effective
  • Data Access Services
  • Pull Information Services, Intranet access,
Terminal session to browse information, pictures
    and maps, LAN/WAN interworking
  • Messaging Services
  • Fax, Email, Short Data
  • Embedded Telemetry

  • Segments have different partners, products, usage
    areas and needs

8
AVL - Automatic Vehicle Location
  • Mandatory application in all PSS projects
  • SDS messaging
  • No extra radio terminal needed in the vehicle
  • New AVL systems have area triggering, time
    triggers etc.

  • Faster and effective communication, Reporting
  • The right information in right time
  • Access organization's data stores, Database
    queries
  • "Pull" information services
  • Information retrieval, Mobile office,
    Client/Server computing
  • Users Field Sales, Field Services, Mobile
    Professionals, Delivery professionals etc.
  • IP Packet Data
  • SDS for application for small data amounts
  • 3rd party middleware software products for
    optimize the TCP/IP
  • TETRA WAP is good application environment in the
    future

11

14
TETRA Data Services, Summary
  • Status service
  • 16 bit integer data, fixed length
  • 32768 values free for application use
  • Fast delivery with minimum load to radio path
  • Group addressing
  • Short Data service, SDS
  • 4 types of SDS messages. 16/32/64 bits and 126
    bytes.
  • Fast delivery (less than 0.5 sec), small load to
    radio path
  • Group addressing
  • SDS-TL, Transport layer
  • IP Packet Data
  • Standard TCP/IP protocol layer (winsock) for
    applications
  • Fast connection setup
  • Economic radio path usage, automatic
    disconnection at inactive periods
  • Circuit Mode Data

15
Status Service in the TETRA
  • Pre-coded status numbers are transmitted, both
    sides know what numbers means
  • 16 bit integer data, fixed length
  • 32768 values for application use
  • 32768 values reserved for further standardization
  • General acknowledgment
  • Fast end-to-end delivery with minimum load to
    radio path
  • TETRA address space
  • Group addressing.
  • Call unrelated
  • Messaging during ongoing speech call
  • Emergency status goes always through

16
SDS Service in the TETRA
  • The TETRA standard defines four different SDS
    message types
  • SDS--1 Values 0 - 65535 are free for application
designers. Different PDU (Protocol Data Unit)
header than in TETRA Status messages.
  • SDS--2 32--bit--long messages, all values are
    free for application designers
  • SDS--3 64--bit--long messages, all values are
    free for application designers
  • SDS--4 messages of variable length
  • (1017 bits, 1261 bytes, with advanced link max
    2551 bytes data)
  • Address is ITSI address (same as in the voice
    calls)
  • Sending SDS to the Groups is possible
  • On-Line, End-to-end delivery
  • Uses master signaling channel
  • SDS-TL (Transport Layer) standard
  • basic text messaging protocol for end to end
    acknowledgements

17
SDS-TL (Transport Layer) Services
  • end-to-end acknowledgement of message receipt and
    consumption by application
  • support for multiple application protocols
  • point-to-point and point-to-multipoint message
    transfer
  • broadcast message transfer
  • SDS-TL Text Messaging will be supported (subset
    of the whole SDS-TL)
  • A short report mode (using SDS precoded status)
  • negative acknowledgements
  • Protocol/encoding not supported
  • Destination memory full
  • Message received
  • A long report mode (using SDS UDD-4)
  • four negative acknowledgements
  • Destination not registered on system
  • Delivery failed
  • Unknown destination, gateway, or service centre
    address
  • Group address with individual service

19
IP Packet Data in the TETRA
  • IP protocol fits well to bursty traffic (IP
    Internet protocol)
  • Enables long session times gt "always on, always
    connected"
  • Radio resources used economically
  • Connectivity to the surrounding IT world
  • Products available in Client and Server side
  • Numerous application segments can use IP network
  • Future-proof protocol layer (TCP/IP) for the
    applications
  • roaming and handover supported
  • IP address allocation static or dynamically,
    private and public IP addresses
  • TCP/IP Winsock layer for Applications

20
TETRA IP Packet Data Air Interface
  • Uses Assigned Secondary Control Channel (ASCCH)
  • With 1 timeslot channel gross rate is 4,8 kbits/s
  • TETRA provides robust data link
  • Retransmissions of entire datagram
  • Selective retransmission of corrupted frames
  • Windowing (acknowledgement of multiple datagrams
    at once)
  • Air interface encryption applies to IP
