Overview
  • To engage in a discussion about the final grades
    on SSE1 (moderation of paperwork).
  • To discuss the process of the interim and final
    assessment meeting and useful strategies for
    these meetings.
  • To discuss key changes from SSE1-SSE2.

Moderation of Grades (the language of paperwork
and discussions)
  • What makes a student very good, good,
    satisfactory or unsatisfactory?
  • What is the evidence base?
  • Discussions with mentor
  • Observations
  • Weekly training sheets
  • Depth and range of assessments (P,T,A cycle)
  • Wider school experiences
  • Ownership, management and responsibility

2. Interim and Final Assessment Meeting
  • Interim Assessment (key points)
  • Reminder e-mail to trainees and mentors (course
    leaders will do this too)
  • Standards discussion and ways forward (highlight
    position of trainee at this interim point)
  • Set targets for the remainder of block
  • Raise any concerns if any unsatisfactory areas
  • Importance of the action plan (where necessary)
  • Importance of university notification
  • Discuss DRAFT checklist for visit 1 (this
    will ensure that the responsibilities of mentors
    and LT are made clear early on).

  • Mentor and trainee should have gone through
    Standards paperwork before LT arrives (role of
    the LT)
  • LT to assess files (see file notes grid)
  • Discussion with trainee (separate or
    collaboratively?). What works best and why?

  • Discuss/ suggest targets for SSE2
