Personal Warranty
  • Business environment
  • Increasingly large scale systems integration
  • Work performed across many sites, worldwide
  • Strategic relationships with customers and
    suppliers
  • Virtual organizations with collaborative teams
  • Fluid boundaries for teams and functions
  • Multi-tasking of individuals
  • Work performed on-line, with immediate access

3
Personal Warranty
  • Business environment
  • Leaders and employees are subjected to intense
    scrutiny
  • Impeccable integrity and ethical standards
    expected for all business transactions
  • Complex products and systems are dependent on
    process management
  • Variation management and process configuration
    control
  • Process input variables determine process output
    performance
  • Products tend to be low volume and may be unique
    configurations

4
Personal Warranty
  • Accountability
  • Complex business transactions and our critical
products, systems and services are highly
dependent on incremental assessment and warranty
  • The highest level of professionalism is required
in every aspect of our jobs
  • Signature of the performing individuals,
    incrementally and ultimately, warrant that
personal obligations were met and warrant
    conformance and compliance with requirements

5
Personal Warranty
  • Accountability
  • Personal warranty is established by signing your
    name or initials,
  • Or, by affixing an assigned stamp, or seal
  • Or, by evidence of a computer generated facsimile
of your signature, initials or stamp
  • If you are uncertain of your ability to meet your
personal obligation to warrant conformance or
    compliance with governing requirements ...

STOP
6
Personal Warranty
  • Accountability
  • While STOPPED
  • Investigate and assess the situation
  • Ask for help to enable understanding, or to
    rectify the situation, thereby establishing
    conformance or compliance with governing
    requirements
  • If there is a problem, make sure that it is
    handled in accordance with procedures
  • Only then apply your signature
  • When you reach a Gray Area
  • Question what is unclear
  • Obtain clarification

7
Personal Warranty
  • How do I Warrant my work?
  • We each meet our obligations by performing our
    job
  • Exactly in accordance with our procedures and
    instructions, each and every time
  • If there is an error in a procedure or work
instruction, we stop, and get it fixed
  • If our work doesnt conform or comply with
requirements, we stop and get it fixed (in
    accordance with the procedure)
  • We stop and ask for help, if were unable to
fully understand a requirement, or how to do a
    job
  • When we sign-off on a task, we know we did it in
accordance with our procedures and instructions
  • Thats our Personal Warranty!

8
Personal Warranty
  • Personal Warranty always prevails over Schedule
  • Our Priorities
  • Integrity, Accountability - Warranty
  • First Time Through
  • Process Cycle Time

9
Personal Warranty
  • What is a Warranty issue?
  • A warranty issue is when someone signs his/her
name, indicating obligations were met and
    indicating conformance with a governing
    requirement
  • Knowing that there is a problem
  • Or covering-up a problem
  • Or without having followed the required procedure
    or instructions

10
Personal Warranty
  • Is every error a Warranty issue? No!
  • People do make mistakes - some may be referred to
as human error or workmanship error
  • Mistakes can occur, some due to inattention to
detail, or a lack of skill or knowledge
  • Such errors, while not considered warranty
issues, still may have significant consequences

11
Personal Warranty
  • What do I do if I find that I may have erred in
    doing my job?
  • I immediately bring it to the attention of my
  • manager
  • Well work together to understand a course
  • of action
  • Not reporting an error can have grave
  • consequences
  • Puts the Customer, the Company and
  • ourselves at risk

12
Personal Warranty
  • Attention to Detail heightened awareness
  • Safety
  • Our own
  • Our Team members
  • Our Customers and Suppliers
  • First Time Through, in everything we do
  • Customer expectations are satisfied
  • Stop, if youre not sure!

13
Personal Warranty
  • What about continuous improvement?
  • We want to follow our processes consistently,
    each time
  • We want to understand our First Time Through
    yield
  • We want to continually look for improvement
    opportunities
  • We will implement changes/improvements when we
better understand the effect of the changes on
    the overall system
  • When the change makes business sense
  • When a process is under process-control
  • Coordination of such changes is essential prior
    to incorporation

Personal Warranty Quotes
I warrant technical reports for accuracy,
completeness and technical approach.
As Office staff employee, I warrant the hours of
work on proposals and Program Plans.
"Personnel warranty is a guarantee with the
Company and the Customer that the task has been
successfully performed in accordance with company
and contract requirements."
Submittal of expense report - my signature
warrants its accuracy.
Warranty means managing my projects, assuring
that they are accomplished according to
established requirements/procedures
"When I review and approve a new or changed
drawing, I warrant that the system safety and/or
defined hazards have not been adversely impacted."
For me, warranty means that all the paper I
process is accurate, clearly based on all the
available information and knowledge I have.
