EU Commission Communication COM (2006) 136 final,
22 March 2006 The Commission will continue to
promote CSR globally with a view to maximizing
the contribution of enterprises to the
achievement of the UN Millennium Development
Goals. The ILO Tripartite Declaration , the OECD
Guidelines for MNEs and the UN Global Compact, as
well as other reference instruments and
initiatives, provide benchmarks for responsible
business conduct.

G8 commits to promote actively internationally
agreed corporate social responsibility and labour
standards. Specifically references OECD
Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises MNEs and
ILO Tripartite Declaration. G8 calls on
private corporations and business organizations
to adhere to the principles in the OECD
Guidelines. Encourages emerging economies
developing countries to associate themselves
with the values and standards contained in these
guidelines. G8 stresses the UN Global Compact
as an important CSR initiative. Invites
companies listed on G8 stock markets to assess,
in their annual reports how they comply with CSR
standards and principles.
