  • How well does your choice of topic fit the HD
    theme for the year?
  • Can you find multiple perspectives/ multiple
    points of view?
  • Will you be able to analyze the historical
    context and decide how that context influenced
    your topic?
  • Will you be able to assess your topics positive
    and negative impacts on history? Did your topic
    leave a lasting legacy?

Find Resources About Your Topic

Gather Your Information
  • No copying! No paraphrasing!
  • Close the book whenever you write notes.
  • List your resources by number so you can keep
    track of where you got each cards information.
  • Do your annotated bibliography entries as you go.

Organize Your Information
  • Determine the most important points you need to
    convey to your audience. Write out complete
    topic sentences, one for each point.
  • Decide what information you need to include to
    supplement and support those main points. Write
    a complete sentence for each, at least two
    supporting points for each topic sentence.
  • Organize your sentences into the body of your
    short paper. Add a paragraph introduction and
    paragraph conclusion.
  • Insert referenced citations into each paragraph
    in the body.

Timeline for Research
  • Nov. 2 turn in a 4-entry annotated bibliography
    and the notes you took on those 4 resources (10
    cards)
  • Nov. 16 turn in an 8-entry annotated bibliography
    (fix mistakes on the first 4 entries and add 4
    more) and notes you took on your new resources
    (10 more cards)
  • Dec. 1 turn in an 12-entry annotated bibliography
    (fix mistakes on the first 8 entries and add 4
    more) and notes you took on your new resources
    (10 more cards)
  • Dec. 14 1 turn in an 15-entry annotated
    bibliography (fix mistakes on the first 12
    entries and add 3 more) and notes you took on
    your new resources (10 more cards)

Finish Your Written Work
  • The individual annotated bibliography is due
    December 14
  • The short individual CBA papers (500 word max)
    plus the process papers part 1 and 2 are due
    January 22
  • All final draft written work including the team
    annotated bibliography and the finished process
    papers are due February 19
  • I will offer input on papers and web sites then
    they need to be fixed and turned back in to me by
    March 1 so I can mail them in on time.

Give Your Presentation
  • Our History Day Peer Review will be Monday, March
    15, in the school library.
  • The regional meet is probably on Monday, March
    22, at Olympic College in Bremerton.
  • State HD is on or around Saturday, April 24.
  • National HD is on or around Sunday, June 13, to
  • Thursday, June 17in Maryland.
