3
Myth or Fact?
  • Community-based health programs that use monetary
incentives and lots of "perks" undermine the
concept of voluntary participation and create
    expectations that cannot be sustained.

4
Myth or Fact?
  • Randomized control trials, the sine qua non of
health research, is inappropriate, misleading and
    unnecessarily expensive for assessment of
    community-based health programs.

5
Myth or Fact?
  • NGOs should only implement health programs that
can be taken up by the government when they leave.

6
Myth or Fact?
  • Improving access to quality maternal health care
is the absolute priority for maternal health
funding. No funding should be spent on
    community-based initiatives, such as TBA
    training, other than community-based demand
    creation and advocacy.

7
Myth or Fact?
  • Most community health workers do not have the
skills or services that communities most value,
therefore, alternative modes of reaching the
community would be more valuable and
    cost-effective.

8
Myth or Fact?
  • The end goal that should be measured through a
    community mobilization approach is empowerment
outcomes and outputs it's impossible to predict
health outcome with a true community mobilization
approach within a 3-5 year project timeframe.
