  • Discuss positioning in field and outside review
    process
  • Your Senior Advisors and Mentors

  • Talk Often and Talk Early
  • Letters (Chair, Dean, Outside Letters)
  • Departmental Norms
  • Support Staff
  • Key to details, quality control and time
    management!
  • They work on the package even after you think you
    are finished!

  • Dean of Faculties Office
  • (no, I didnt forget these folks ?)
  • Theyve seen and read more PT notebooks than
    anyone else on campus - ASK THEM
  • PT Document Outlining Structure and Contents of
    Notebooks
  • Tabs and Supplies
  • Know the Timeline
  • Chair, Department, College, Dean all have
    deadlines prior to the Dean of Faculties deadline
  • Dont procrastinate - The devils in the details

  • Vita - dont be creative here
  • Follow PT memo guidelines to a T
  • Statements - Research, Teaching, Service
  • An opportunity for reflection. What have you
    accomplished? What direction are you are heading
    with your work?
  • This is the time to brag - but make it
    comprehensive and parsimonious
  • Tell a story - not everyone reading your package
    is in your field.

Research Statement (3-5 pages)
  • First paragraph is key.
  • Provide a hook for why your work is important.
  • What is your general area of work.
  • Define the main themes of your research?
  • What research have you published in each of the
    themes you identified?
  • Any awards? Speaking invitations?
  • Any recognition in popular press?
  • What are you working on next?
  • How do you assess the quality of your work?
  • Use tables, charts and bullet points to provide
    visual summaries

  • Teaching Statement (2-3 pages)
  • Philosophy, Style, Awards, Types of classes,
    Innovations
  • Service Statement (1-2 pages)
  • Service to FSU, Service to your Profession/Field
  • Use bullets to highlight activities at each level
  • Read statements by previously tenured faculty in
    your department.
  • Have friends and peers read your statements
    before finalizing them.
