JOB ROTATION
2
OUTLINE
  • INTRODUCTION
  • METHOD
  • RESULTS
  • DISCUSSION

3
Job Rotation As a Factor in Reducing Physical
Workload at a Refuse Collecting Department

4
Job Rotation
  • enhance the skills of the employees
  • reduce monotony in daily work
  • alternate between different types of mechanical
    loads
  • alternate between high and low energetic loads of
    different jobs

5
The objective
  • To investigate the affect of job rotation on
  • the physical workload of the employees
  • working at a refuse collecting department

6
PARTICIPANTS
  • 4 men as refuse collectors
  • 4 men as street sweepers.

according to a non- rotation scheme
  • according to a
  • rotation scheme
  • 4 men as refuse collectors / street sweepers
  • 4 men as street sweepers/ drivers

7
Physical Workload
  • Perceived load the mean rate of the perceived
fatigue and the perceived exertion during a day
  • Energetic load the mean heart rate during the
work day, represented as a percentage of the
    heart rate reserve
  • Postural load the time during which flexion of
the trunk was gt45 and elevation of one or two of
the upper arms was gt 60

8
Confounding Variables
  • Task
  • e.g. refuse colllecting, street
    sweeping
  • Activity
  • e.g. walking, sweeping
  • Load handled
  • e.g.polythene bag
  • Number of bags lifted per lift

9
Data Analysis
  • ANOVA
  • Stepwise Multiple Regression Analysis

10
RESULTS
  • Physical workload
  • Confounding variables
  • Effects of variables on physical workload

11
DISCUSSION
  • The aim of the job rotation was to divide equally
the physically demanding work among the employees

12
  • Only the postural load of the trunk differs
    between refuse collectors/street sweepers and
    other groups.

13

Two possible explanations 1- Change in tasks led
to different postures and activities
  • 2- Job rotation in a more complete job. That makes
    job,
  • less monotonous
  • less aversion
  • high motivation
  • high intrinsic job satisfaction
