What Is Depression?
  • Depression is one of the most common psychiatric
    illness
  • Depression can affect anyone in any age
  • It is a serious emotional disease that can render
    people unable to function, ruin their
    relationships with others, and even lead to
    suicide
  • Can be caused by pressure from school, work, or
    other activities
  • Depression are caused by chemical changes in the
    brain

Symptoms
  • -Syndrome of associated symptoms may arise
    including- diminished appetite- weight loss or
    weight gain - slowed thinking - a loss of
    interest in the world- feelings of guilt/
    hopelessness - low self-esteem - feeling
    worthless-change of sleeping patterns

Stage One
  • - Stage one is when a person had just started
    the illness- Their depression can be stated in
    a category such as mild- They may be feeling
    decreased interest in activities or hobbies

Stage Two
  • This stage can be categorized as medium
  • The person may feel - disliked from other
    people
  • - irritated easily
  • - cant concentrate from what they are doing

Stage Three
  • - This stage can be categorized as heavy- In
    this stage, the person can be feel very hopeless,
    worthless, and guilty- This stage can easily
    lead to suicide

Depression Type One
  • Major Depression
  • - interfere with the ability to work, study,
    sleep, eat, and enjoy once pleasurable
    activities

Depression Type Two
  • Dysthymia - involves long-term - keep one
    from functioning well or from good feeling

Depression Type Three
  • Bipolar Disorder / Manic Depression
    Illness - characterized by cycling mood
    changes - severe high (mania) and lows
    (depression) - can switch mood in a dramatic
    rapid, but most often gradually

Treatments
  • - Depression is a treatable disease-
    Depression can also be treated with electro
    convulsive shock. Although it has gained a
    negative reputation, this form of therapy is the
    most consistently effective treatment for
    depression- Two major drugs are used to treat
    depression 1st group- tricycle
    antidepressants 2nd group- migraine, usually in
    the form of a pill

Preventions
  • - Be around with family or friends more- Go
    out and have fun- Avoid depressing situation-
    Go for check-ups
