1My Farewell Presentation -- October 1999
The following presentation is what I sent as my
farewell e-mail. Everyone within the B2 project
could see it and I tried to get it released to
the rest of the company, but someone in charge
didnt like some of the content as being
anti-company. However, I put it on my own web
site and e-mailed the URL to it.
View it and see for yourself if I was too
anti-company. You must realize that the
atmosphere at work at the time was not very
pro-company. They had announced the closure of
the Binghamton plant and were trying to get
people to move to Arlington Texas or other
Raytheon sites.
2A History of LINK
And Its End.
3It Started with Ed Link (1929)
Link Aviation Devices Incorporated in 1935 Name
changed to Link Aviation, Inc. later.
4The First of many Mergers
General Precision and Link merged in 1954
5The Next Acquisition
In 1968 Singer bought General Precision
6Size
- At the peak, there were about 5000 employees of
the Link Division worldwide. - This includes Binghamton, Silver Springs,
Sunnyvale, and Link Miles.
7Hostile Takeover by Bicoastal
Paul Bilzerian acquired The Singer Co. through a
hostile takeover and then proceeded to sell its
various components to whatever sucker came along.
- The Military and Commercial parts were sold
separately.
8Bad Timing Department
In 1988, CAE was the unlucky buyer of the
Military Part of the old Singer-LINK. (565M)
9Our New Logo Became
At least the LINK name remained.
10Eliminate a Competitor.
Hughes buys LINK from CAE in 1995. CAE takes
400M bath.
11The Beginning of the End Starts
HUGHES TRAINING, INC.
Hughes tries to close the Binghamton Plant.
But, the B2 didnt want to go. So it stayed.
For a while.
12Oblivion Continues
Raytheon bought Hughes Electronics, including
whats left of Link in 1997.
13The Last Step.
In 1999 Raytheon decides to move whats left to
Arlington. Only one problem, nobody goes. How
well whats left works, is anyones guess.
14Who Would Want Whats Left?
?
Bicoastal
15Whos Next?
Put Name Here
16Its been fun!!!
- The last 31 years have certainly been
interesting. Ive worked with a lot of good
people and, for the most part, have enjoyed it.
17Its Time to Move On!
However, there have been times, lately, when
DOING A GOOD JOB HERE Is Like Wetting Your
Pants In A Dark Suit YOU GET A WARM FEELING BUT
NO ONE NOTICES
18Movin On
- But, now its time to move on and to enjoy the
fruits of my labor.
And do things when I want to do them.
Cgt Good Bye
Cgt Good Luck

19Im Outta Here
Wherever you go and whatever you may do in the
future.
