PrivacySettings
The privacy setting in Internet Explorer manages
the handling of "cookies". A cookie is a unique
identifier that a site on the Internet provides
to the browser and that resides on the desktop.
It enables the site that put it there to track a
user's actions and the time spent on the site.
It can also collect information about the user
that can be made available for purposes like
marketing. The privacy settings in Internet
Explorer range from "Accept All Cookies" to
"Block All Cookies". Settings include the
following gt Accept All Cookies gt Low gt
Medium gt Medium High gt High gt Block All
Cookies Recommended settings for privacy are
Medium or Medium High.

AdvancedSet Defaults
The Advanced tab under Internet Options provides
settings for gt Accessibility gt Browsing gt
HTTP1.1 gt Java (Sun) gt Microsoft VM gt
Multimedia gt Printing gt Search from the
Address bar gt Security We recommend that you
use the default settings. If you experience
problems using Internet Explorer with Oracle
Financials, as a first step, restore the default
settings. Click the 'Restore Defaults' button on
the 'Advanced' tab.
17
AdvancedSecurity Settings
Check that the settings under 'Security' in the
'Advanced' tab match the settings described in
the picture to the left. WARNING Enabling the
option 'Do not save encrypted pages to disk' will
make it impossible for you to download files and
PDF reports from the Harvard Data Warehouse. If
you experience problems downloading, first make
sure that this option is unchecked.
18
Pop-up Window Blocker
A pop-up window blocker prevents new windows from
opening automatically when you visit a website by
intercepting an incoming window and preventing it
from being displayed. Such windows often contain
advertising and can block your view of the
content on the page. However, a pop-up window
blocker can also interfere with your ability to
perform certain functions in Oracle Financials
and Harvard's Financial data warehouse like
uploading budgets in the Budget Tool or viewing
reports in HUDINI. The picture above shows a
pop-up window blocker that comes with the Google
toolbar and has been added to the Internet
Explorer browser. If it interferes with the
performance of Harvard's financial applications,
you can disable it temporarily or enable it to
by-pass the blocker for particular sites. To
allow a pop-up window through on a one-time basis
using Google hold down the CTRL key as you click
a link to a new page. "White listing" allows you
to by-pass the blocker for the sites you specify.
You can disable the blocker altogether by
clearing the checkbox for the pop-up blocker in
the Accessories section of the Toolbar Options
window.

Tool BarDiscussion Button
Office Server Extensions (OSE) in Microsoft
Office enables users who are working
collaboratively to store documents and to discuss
their content through the Web Discussion feature
of OSE. It requires a web server for storing the
documents to be specified during installation of
OSE. The Discussion button on the toolbar in
Internet Explorer allows users to add comments
about the documents. The web servers for Oracle
Financials do not provide this functionality and
should not be specified as the web server for
Discussions. You will not be able to use
applications like AWS2 if this feature is enabled
when logging in.
22
J-initiator Java Applet Error
Although Oracle allows more than one version of
the J-initiator to be installed on a desktop, the
application can display a Java Applet error
message (FRM-92100) when it finds a large number
of versions stored there. If you receive this
error message in applications where the
J-initiator is required, de-install all
J-initiator versions and re-install the latest
version required for the application. A copy of
the latest version is available on the
applications page of the vpf-web site.
