    used to cool a flammable mixture in the presence
    of air because oxygen can condense from the air
    and lead to a potentially explosive condition.

    which will cause damage and possible overheating.

If you discover a fire

    all other people have left.
  • Do not stop to collect personal belongings.

Jim Streit
  • According to Jim Streit, the Lab's fire marshal
    in Fire Protection (FWO-FIRE), these practices
    can include installing smoke detectors and
    changing batteries in them on a regular schedule
    creating muster areas outside the home and
    developing and practicing fire escape plans with
    all family members. "Families should develop and
    practice a fire escape plan, and everyone should
    know at least two ways out of each room of the
    house," said Streit. He added that smoke
    detectors should be present at all levels of the
    home and near all bedrooms.

Sprinklers
  • Sprinklers has been proven in use for well over
    100 years and over 40 million are fitted
    worldwide each year.
  • 99 of fires are controlled by sprinklers alone
    and
  • 60 of fires were controlled by spray from no
    more than 4 sprinklers.
  • Losses from fires in buildings protected with
    sprinklers are estimated to be 1/10 of those with
    unprotected buildings.

How sprinklers work
  • Each sprinkler head will open when it reaches a
    specific temperature and spray the water on the
    fire. The hot gases from the fire are usually
    enough to make it operate. Only the sprinklers
    over the fire open. The others remain closed.
    This limits any damage to areas where there is no
    fire and reduces the amount of water needed.

Fire Doors
  • Fire doors are typically made of steel or solid
    wood. They are provided with specially tested
    components including closers, latching hardware,
    and wired fire-rated glass windows. These doors
    create a fire wall. They can only perform
    properly when they are maintained well. Some fire
    doors are found in corridors and they close when
    they hear they fire alarm. They stop the fire
    from spreading.
