• Traditionally Baptism was the symbolic washing
  with water so the Original Sin could be washed
  away
• Every baby is born with this sin in the Catholic
  teaching of Christianity

• The Original Sin was understood as the inherent
  state of wickedness that has existed since the
  first man disobeyed God

• Only Baptism could remove this guilt so it is
  important that babies are Baptised as soon as
  possible to ensure that they do not die in their
  natural corrupt state
