His early life

• Martin Luther king was born in Atlanta Georgia on
  January,15,1929. At the age 15 king entered
  Morehouse College in Atlanta under a special
  program for gifted students. He graduated in 1948
  and spent the next three years at Crozer
  Theological Seminary in Chester, Pennsylvania.
• While he was at Crozer, he learned about how to
  handle situations in a nonviolent way. King
  graduated from seminary in 1951.

The middle life

• Violence in Northern cities in the mid 1960s led
  King to focus on problems in urban areas. In1966
  King set up a headquarters in Chicago, Illinois.
  This is where he organized protests against the
  citys unfair practices in housing and
  employment. King only used peaceful methods.

His final years before death

• Early in 1968 King traveled to Memphis, Tennessee
  to support a strike by poorly paid sanitation
  workers. On April 4 he was shot and killed on the
  balcony of a motel.
• On march , 10 ,1969 the accused killer , a white
  man named James Earl Ray, plead guilty to the
  murder. He was sentenced to 99 years in prison

How Dr. King Took a Stand in History

• Dr. King changed the way that black and white
  people eat, shop, ride a bus and live their
  everyday lives.
• He was a major player in the peaceful Civil
  Rights Movement.
• He helped African Americans gain the right to
  vote.
• He lead the march on Washington, D.C. to demand
  equal justice for every race.

The end
