  • Francis Scott Key wrote the song in 1814.

  • It was bought to celebrate the colony's 50th
    anniversary.
  • It cracked the first time it was wrung.
  • It was melted down and rebuilt.
  • It was rung to celebrate the Declaration of

  • In 1839 they called it the Liberty Bell.
  • The bell is now on display at the Pennsylvania
    State House in Philadelphia across from
    Independence Hall.

    from England, the bald eagle was chosen as the
    national bird.
  • The eagle represents strength and courage.
  • The eagle at that time was found all over
    America.
  • Today the bird has almost disappeared and was on
    the endangered species list. It is now a
    protected bird. This means it is illegal to hunt
    or kill a bald eagle.

    France in 1886. The statue symbolizes the land of
    freedom.

    monument to the US as a hundredth anniversary of

  • In 1876, Frédéric-Auguste Bartholdi began to
    construct it.

  • Ellis Island was an immigration station near the
    Statue of Liberty. People who came from Europe
    would see the statue as they came in on the ship.
  • From 1984-1986 the statue was completely
    renovated.
  • Today you can take a ferry from New York City
    (Manhattan) to Liberty Island to see the statue.

    commemorate westward expansion. It was built in
    1965. It is located in St. Louis, Missouri.

    President. It is located in Washington D.C. which
    is the capital of the United States. The first
    president who lived in the White House was John
    Adams in 1800.

  • During the war of 1812, one of the meat packers
    that gave food to the soldiers was named Sam
    Wilson.
  • On the food boxes there was a stamp that said
    U.S.
  • Someone asked, who is U.S and as a joke they said
    U.S.Uncle Sam. Since then Uncle Sam means the US
    government.
