National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 by

• The National Environmental Policy Act declares a
  national policy which will encourage man to value
  his environment and promote efforts which will
  prevent or eliminate damage to the environment
  and biosphere and stimulate the health and
  welfare of man. This policy will enrich the
  understanding of the ecological systems and
  natural resources important to the Nation and to
  establish a Council on Environmental Quality.
• NEPA came into existence following widespread
  protests against the federal government's
  destruction of neighborhoods and the natural
  environment while building Interstate Highways
  during the 1950s and 1960s. The law has since
  been applied to any project, federal, state or
  local, that involves federal funding or work
  performed by the federal government.

Agencies that Regulate

• The Environmental Protection Agency and the
  United States Department of Agriculture are the
  agencies that regulate this Act.
• NEPA sought to put environmental concerns on par
  with economic motivations and technological
  possibility when making a decision that could
  affect the environment. Hydrological, geological,
  biological, ecological, social, and health are
  among the consequences considered. Archeological,
  historical, cultural impact analyses, and
  financial management plans for an action have
  been added to the Environmental Impact Statement
  process.
• This act is put in function to regulate the mans
  actions against nature.
