Title: How to recognise me

1
How to recognise me
  • You can recognise me by my fur, it has a unique
colour It can vary from blonde to white because
of a rare colour mutation found in some tawny
lions. Because of our colour people pay a lot of
money over 100,000 pounds to hunt us and keep our
skins as rugs in their homes, its hard to live
in the wild for us not just because of poachers
but our coats dont give us enough camouflage to
hunt for food our prey can spot us as we try to
hide in the grass and sneak up on them so we are
unable to live in our natural habitat.

Where I come from
  • I come from the Timbavati area in South Africa,
but you can find me in different wild life
reserves. In West Midlands Safari Park you can
find a pride of white lions who have just had
cubs they bought these animals from people in a
wild life reserve in Africa our population is
being spread throughout wild life parks all over
the world including New Zealand, West Midlands
U.K, and Mostly Africa. There isnt many lions
like me in the wild we mostly live in animal
parks or in captivity for special breeding
programs to bring our species back. You might
think its cruel to keep us in cages, but its
actually a good thing because if we werent here
then we would all become extinct.

What I like to eat
  • I like to eat any type of meat but mostly zebra,
    wildebeest, gazelles, antelope and waterbucks.
These would be my usual prey in the wild, my
fellow lions would all hunt together for food but
because we live in wild life reserves we dont
get to hunt but we do still get fed by the zoo
keepers who really like to see us. When we are
eating we get very protective even if we are
normally very well natured, we know that our food
is our only way of survival so its best to stay
out of our way when were eating.

Interesting facts about me
  • The lion is the second largest of all cats, with
    tigers being the biggest.
  • A pride can be around 30-40 lions, and their
territory can be up to 200 square miles.
  • The life of a lion in captivity is increased up
to 10 years due to not having to hunt or fight.
  • Males Within a pride have a social bond and will
    protect their pride together.
  • When cubs are -4 months old they will start to
assist their mothers in hunts for food but wont
actually kill anything until around 2 years old.
  • Lions will travel up to 15 miles in search of
    food.
  • Lion cubs will often be seen fighting with their
siblings and mother this is to develop fighting
skills for the future when they go off to find
    their own pride.
  • Lionesses mainly hunt for their pride but the
males will always eat first even though they
    didnt help to kill it.

Marking
  • Presentation. This is excellent. I like very much
the colour of the slides you have chosen. It
suits your topic. You have organised your
information on the different slides well too.
  • Content. You have told us some good information
here, and it is pretty well set out. You have
included all the information I asked you to.
  • Writing style. Your spelling and punctuation is
generally pretty good, although you need to watch
out for apostrophes. You have tried to use a
range of different sentence structures here too,
although if you use complex sentences, you need
to remember the commas to help the reader.
Remember your audience too. This might be a bit
hard for 7-11 year olds. Try always to use your
on words, no just those from the websites you
    have used.
  • Overall, a really good effort, and you have
remembered throughout to write as if you are the
    animal. Well done Paige.
