Our course started with a basic overlook of the
week ahead and what we would be doing. We were
introduced to the light microscopes to
familiarize ourselves with microscopes in general
until we were let loose upon the amazing digital
microscopes. The digital microscopes were linked
up to a laptop so that we could see objects and
their properties and structure up close to a
magnification of up to 200x. We experimented with
lots of different materials including flowers,
fabric, food, metals and substances such as dust.
We especially , found that looking at the insides
and middles of flowers was very interesting, and
were surprised to see what certain parts of them
looked like up close.

SEM Microscope
The object that we were most fascinated by was
the pollen, which although when in the digital
microscope looked amazing, it wasnt as close as
wed liked. So we put it under the SEM microscope
up to 800x in magnification, to see what the
balls of pollen really looked like up close. Here
is an example of the pollen balls on the digital
microscope compared to on the SEM microscope. We
found that pollen is actually made up of spiky
balls.

After taking our pictures useing the digital
microscopes we changed the colours using adobe
photoshop and intel player.

After taking our pictures we used them to create
transfers for t-shirts and templates for screen
printing for the silk banners. We used Adobe
photo shop to change and enhance our images. The
main tool we used was the wand to select
different areas of our image to enhance and
change the colour. Then we made templates to do
screen printing with, by printing out the image
on paper using a cutter plotter. Unfortunately we
didnt have enough time to actually make our
template for the printing, so we could only help
with other peoples banners, but we still enjoyed
it, as we got to print other peoples designs onto
the banners

Art
Late in the week we started our work on art. We
started by choosing a picture that we wanted to
project onto our blank canvas. Once we decided
which picture we would use on our canvas we
projected it onto the white board and went around
the rough outline of it . Then we used the
primary colours to create the secondary colours
so that we had the right shades of colours for
our canvas. We then started painting our canvas
starting with the background, and working our way
to the front of the picture.

Lodge Hill
We ended the week by travelling up of lodge hill
in a convoy of three mini vans. Half of us had a
thrilling journey by travelling with Mr
Setterfeild in the blue bus. Unfortunately the
blue bus does tend to struggle going up hill so
it was a mixture of hysterics and being scared
and holding on while travelling up the number of
hills. We travelled at a maximum of 15mph while
travelling up the hills, and a maximum 50mph on
the motor way, we ended up holding up quite a lot
of traffic while this happened. As well as
driving slowly we also chugged along at one time.
This was the mini bus we used and the over night
stay! This is why we have the mini bus fund.

Lodge Hill
While at Lodge Hill we did many game and
activities! The first was shelter building where
many unfortunate people became rather wet as
they didnt build their shelters well enough or
water proofed them enough. Our next activity was
drama each group was given an interesting yet
random prop to create a dramatic and humorous
sketch to amuse the teachers, Of course the best
team did win the snazmataz team which includes
Ellie Matthews, Sophie Hewlett Flo Scordoulis,
Abbie Brothers, Sammy Fairman,Emma Pike and Liv
Welman. We did a sketch about a relay race using
a baton as a prop. We finished our night with a
night walk in the woods, where we found some glow
worms, and a blind trail through that woods. Then
it was bed time. In the morning we had to face
the blue mini bus again!
