What is Parkinsons Disease?
  • PD is a neurological disorder that affects the
nerve cells to inhibit motor movements.
  • PD causes the level of Dopamine to drop between
    the nerve cells.

Notice the size difference. Also, the red places
in the brain are where Dopamine is stored
3
What is Dopamine?
  • Dopamine is a chemical transmitter that allows
nerve cells to transmit signals to the next nerve
    cells.
  • A drop of Dopamine means a drop in ability to
communicate between the nerve endings and the
    next nerve cells dendrites.

4
Dopamine Continued
  • The effects of less Dopamine results in a fault
of communications resulting in a lack or awkward
    motion of body parts.
  • PD affects part of the brain called the
Substantia Nigra which controls the voluntary
movements in the human body while also produces
    Dopamine

5
Symptoms
  • The first noticeable effects of PD is a tremor in
a small part of the body, usually solely the hand
on one side of the body.
  • Unfortunately, overtime, the symptoms will worsen
and other changes will be noticed.

6
Symptoms
  • Other effects of PD may include
  • Sleep Loss
  • Speech Difficulties
  • Depression
  • Postural Difficulties
  • Unpredictable loss of motor movements
  • Rigidity

7
Progressive Supranuclear Palsy
  • The result of PD affecting the part of the brain
    called the Atrophied Tectum
  • This results in the symptoms of Postural
Difficulties and as well as trouble with
eyesight, eye movement, breathing, and swallowing

8
Treatment
  • PD is usually treated with L-Dopa which changes
to Dopamine to add more of these chemical
transmitters in circumstances of a lack of
    Dopamine in damaged nerve cells.
  • There are other ways of treating tremors in parts
of the body by using microchips to eliminate the
    unnecessary electrical impulses
