Title: SSC Thought Provokers Skills Academies Initial thoughts on online components Questions to consider
1SSC Thought Provokers - Skills Academies Initial
thoughts on online componentsQuestions to
consider
- The following simple model was created as an
example of how technologies might support an
academy. It was put together following
discussions with a number of SSCs who were
looking to include a virtual component to their
Skills Academy proposals. - NB- Please see notes to slide for a description.
- The second slide lists a number of key questions
that SSCs have been asking around the Skills
Academy opportunity. The work based e-learning
project is investigating how some organisations
have addressed these questions and will release
the responses in a series of case studies to
support SSCs. - We welcome your thoughts on either the model or
the questions are they useful or not? What
other information are you interested in? If you

3Key Questions for related academy case studies
- These seem to be the burning academy related
questions across the network that the WBEL
project will investigate in a series of case
studies to support the network - Who are the stakeholders in this programme? What
were the engagement strategies for each group? - What research was done to ensure that programme
was led by and met employers business needs? - What competitive research was done to identify
similar offerings in the market? - Is the focus on skills development or
qualification and what is the decision based on? - How does your programme facilitate delivery?
- Does your programme provide a form of brokerage?
How does this model work? - What partners were involved ( eg sponsors,
development partners, delivery partners etc) ?
How did you decide to work with partners why? - What unique value proposition did the SSC provide
to this process? - What governance arrangements did you consider and
finally select? Was technology used to support
governance? - Where did technology enhance the programme? eg
portal interface, skills tools , business tools,
skills delivery, co-ordination of classroom
delivery, facilitating communication, governance,
central repository etc - What sort of investment was needed up front, both
from employers and the SSC? - What overhead is involved, resources, technology,
facilities? - How did employers contribute? Financially, in
kind? - How does your model become sustainable?
- What other lessons did you learn that you feel
would be valuable to pass on?
