Title: Try your hand at being an Adlerian Therapist

1
Try your hand at being an Adlerian Therapist
  • The following three slides summarise the main
therapeutic techniques used by a therapist from
    the Alderian school.
  • Review them, along with any further details you
can get in the book and then as an exercise try
applying them to the three test cases listed on
    the final slide.
  • In each case attempt to identify any complexes,
neurotic fictions and safeguards that the person
might have and then consider what therapeutic
approach you might take to help this person.
  • This exercise is meant to be entirely for your
own benefit and wont be corrected or reviewed by
the lecturing staff. It is intended solely as a
study aid. If you have any questions which arise
from this exercise please do contact the
lecturing staff and we will do our best to answer
    them.

relationships because his heart was broken by his
last girlfriend. Despite her cheating on him and
then dumping him and hes still in love with her.
  • Jade complains that its impossible for her to
find work. Employers dont give her a chance
because shes from a rough area. On top of that
all the lower paid jobs have been taken by
immigrants willing to work for pennies.
  • Sam complains that he just cant seem to get his
head around the content of his psychology
courses. Hes started to ditch lectures or miss
them because he is overtired or hung over from
the previous nights partying. He tells people
hes just not smart enough to keep up.
