• Explain various ways I use technology to
  communicate, create content, and connect with
  students
• Describe variety of teaching environments
  including computer classrooms and the online
  environment (Blackboard and Nicenet)
• Demonstrate use of Nicenet

Technology

• I see technology as being useful to help me in
  the following ways
• Communication
• Content
• Connection

Communication

• HCC has just gotten new VOip our phones are tied
  into our computers, so we now get phone messages
  in our email
• F2f and online students alike email me with
  questions, concerns
• Online students send their work as email
  attachments or through Blackboards assignment
  feature

• Email helps me to keep in communication with
  colleagues at HCC and around the state
• It is also the vehicle for news, memos, updates,
  and information about my department, committees,
  and college
• Most recently, use an intranet to post materials

Online reporting

• Now use secure shell to do reporting of
  attendance periodically as well as grades
• Use excel for f2f grade book and the built-in
  grade book in Blackboard, which can be easily
  downloaded into excel

Create Content

• Technology helps me to create content in several
  ways
• Word documents (generally saved as .rtf)
• Power point presentations
• Faculty web page,

• Technology also makes it possible for me to
  gather content
• --from textbook companion websites
• --from online periodicals
• --from our own library webpage
• --from my own image files (digital photos,
  downloaded free clip art, photos)

Store Content

• As documents and presentations become more
  complex, storage becomes a challenge
• Burning more CDs, using fewer disks
• Using thumb drives (flash drives)
• Also need better file management skills

• Not only is it important to create content, its
  also important to organize it to facilitate
  learning

  that helps me create a simple class website

• Technology helps me transport information from
  home to work, work to home, via email
• Palm pilot with cradles at both places helps me
  to sync calendar
• Thumb drive and extension cables help transfer
  bigger files
