  • THE EPIDEMIC IS AFFECTING A WIDE CROSS-SECTION OF
    SOCIETY CHILDREN, THE YOUTH, ADULTS MEN AND
    WOMEN.
  • HIV/AIDS IS A MULTI-DIMENSIONAL PROBLEM.

  • 1.5 MILLION OF KENYANS HAVE DIED OF AIDS.
  • 1.8 MILLION ARE LEFT ORPHANS.
  • THE CUMULATIVE NUMBER OF DEATHS MAY RISE TO 2.6
    MILLION BY END OF 2005.

The Big Issue Cont.
  • Most AIDS deaths occur between ages of 25-35
    years.
  • The economic loss per day is estimated to be
    about Kshs. 200 million.
  • Life expectancy in the country has dropped from
    60 years in 1993 to about 47 years 2003 due to
    HIV/AIDS.

PROGRESS MADE IN VARIOUS PRIORITY AREAS
  • To be discussed under various technical groups
    but the major ones do include
  • Notable decline in HIV/AIDS prevalence from 14
    in 2000 to 7 in 2004
  • Notable political commitment at all levels
  • Increased resources allocated to HIV/AIDS
    activities
  • Increased involvement of all sectors in the fight
    against HIV/AIDS

RESOURCE MOBILIZATION
  • In order to address the national response, there
    is need to address the availability of adequate
    resources financing mechanisms.
  • National Resource Envelope survey done in 2002
    and 2004 have indicated that there is a large
    resource gap amounting toKShs 5.8 Billion.
  • The tables below show total funding and
    expenditures as part of the national response
