HISTORY
  • First proposed to be disease related to human
    influenza in 1918.
  • Swine influenza called as H1N1 flu, Hog flu, Pig
    flu, swine flu.
  • Called as Spanish Influenza strain and classified
    as pandemic during 1918-19.
  • Causes 50 millions death.

THE 1918 AND 1976 PANDEMIC
  • The 1918 flu pandemic in human was associated
    with H1N1 and appear in pigs.
  • This may reflects zoonosis either from
    swine-human or from human-swine.
  • The pandemic lasted from March 1918-1920
    spreading even to arctic and pacific islands.
  • The 1976 flu is also called as swine flu fiasco
    or swine flu debacle.

DIFFERENCES
  • COLD
  • SWINE FLU
  • FEVER is rare with cold.
  • A productive COUGH is often present with cold.
  • Slight body aches and pain .
  • STUFFY nose is present.
  • CHILLS are uncommon with cold.
  • TIREDNESS is fairly mould with cold.
  • SNEEZING is commonly present.
  • FEVER is 80 present with flu and temperature of
    100F.
  • A non-productive COUGH is present.
  • Severe ache and pain.
  • Not present.
  • CHILLS are present with 60 of flu.

  • SORE THROAT is commonly present.

PRECAUTION METHODS
  • Soap and water can reduce the chance of infection
    by 30.
  • Keep washing your hand with soap and water or
    alcohol based hand cleaner frequently.
  • Eat healthy.
  • Protein are essential to keep our body strength.
  • FDA recommends 50gms of protein every day.

  • Vitamin b6,b12 and minerals such as selenium and
    zinc keeps the body strength.
  • Facemask and respirators have chance of reducing
    the influenza infection so wearing the mask is
    necessariy.
  • Regular aerobic activity such as running,
    walking, swimming, biking of 30mts each day.
  • Avoid travelling unnecessarily.

  • Have a deep sleep every day.
  • Take more amount of liquid item such as fresh
    juice etc..
  • Wash your hands regularly.
  • Cover your mouth with a cloth while coughing and
    sneezing.
  • Avoid handshaking with others.
  • Dont split in the public places
  • Avoid taking medicine at own risk.

TREAMENT FOR SWINE FLU
  • The anti viral medicines oseltamivir(TAMIFLU) and
    Zanamivir(RELENZA) are being used to treat the
    people infected with swine flu.
  • Also doctor recommended of using older medicine
    like symmetral(AMANTADINE) and Flumadine(RIMANTADI
    NE).
  • TAMIFLU RELENZA should be started with in
    48hours who is having the development of swine
    flu symptoms.

DOSAGE METHODS
  • Dosing of tamiflu treatment as follows
  • 12mg twice daily for five days infant under 3mths
    old, 20mg for 3-5mths old, 25mg for 6-12mths old.
  • Relenza is still only recommended for people who
    are at least 7years old.
