Title: Air Resistance

1
Air Resistance
2
Air Resistance is caused by friction. The
greater the surface area of the object the more
friction created and it will fall slower.
3
But in a Vacuum they will both fall at the exact
same speed
4
World With Out Air Resistance
  • With out air resistance many things would be
different. As seen on the previous slide things
would all fall at the same rate. A pendulum
would go on forever. Not only could you not
paradrop out of a plane, but you couldnt get a
    plane to fly any way.

5
Bernoulis principle
6
You can see that the higher pressure pushes the
plane up while the lower one push down on it
creating lift
7
How a glider works
  • Gliders are like airplanes but with no
engines. Bernoulli Principle of air resistance
allowing them to hang in the air.

8
Terminal Velocity
  • Terminal Velocity is the highest speed a
falling object reaches. As it falls down it
accelerates until the acceleration balances out
with air resistance, making the acceleration 0.

9
See what I mean?
10
So the parachuter cannot reach any more speed
because there is a balanced force.
11
  • So that is air resistance.
  • Wow!
