Context to the Regeneration Masterplan
  • Substantial economic investment in the Borough,

    unique opportunity
  • Forthcoming North South Tees Industrial Framework
will be fundamental in identifying and removing
    barriers
  • Attractive rural and coastal location in East
Cleveland but faces challenges such as deep
rooted housing market failure, poor accessibility
    and low levels of enterprise
  • Greater Eston is subject to an ambitious, long
term regeneration programme and Redcar too, faces
significant challenges, with a failing town
    centre and coastal resort offer
  • Like the rest of the Country, Redcar and
Cleveland also face new challenges brought about
    by the economic recession

4
Regeneration Masterplan Objectives - 1
  • Optimising the mix of uses and key development
drivers for different settlements in the
district, to create a vibrant and vital borough
    for living, working and leisure
  • Maximise the potential of the riverside, coastal
and rural settings, including the links to it
from surrounding areas in the city region and
    beyond
  • Facilitate the potential of Redcar, Saltburn and
Guisborough to be successful and vibrant town
    centres
  • Build upon the existing regeneration activity,
particularly in relation to the Tees Valley and
    Greater Eston

5
Regeneration Masterplan Objectives - 2
  • Promote the economic development of the area,
building upon unique assets and infrastructure in
the ports, steel, chemicals and energy sectors,
to create new opportunities for economic growth
    and employment for local communities
  • To promote a sustainable future for Redcar
    Cleveland socially, economically and
    environmentally
  • Be a driver for renewed confidence and pride in
    Redcar Cleveland through the careful
consideration of a vision, role and identity for
    the area.
